1. Board Annual Meeting will be April 23
You’re invited to attend the Board of DD Annual Meeting! This year, the Annual Meeting was moved to April 23 from its traditional time in January in order hopefully to have better weather for the event. The keynote speaker this year will be Barbara Sears, Director of the Ohio Department of Medicaid. A highlight of the evening is the presentation of several awards by the Board to Community Partners, the Staff Person of the Year, and the Self-Advocate of the Year. The Board will also present its prestigious Spirit Award.
The Annual Meeting will be April 23, 6:00 p.m., at Larc Lane Center, 1155 Larc Lane in Toledo.
2. Auction slated for April 21
The Lucas County Board of DD will have an auction on April 21 that will include vehicles, furniture, and other items. Click here to check out the items and find out more about the auction.
3. Training for guardians of adults offered on May 23
The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities will again host training for guardians needing to complete their annual continuing education requirement. Guardians are required to complete a three-hour continuing education course every calendar year.
The free sessions will be held on May 23 at Larc Lane Center, 1155 Larc Lane, Toledo 43614. The course is offered via a special three-hour broadcast. Two broadcast sessions are scheduled: 8:45-12:00 and 1:00-4:15. Guardians may attend either of the two broadcasts to fulfill the annual continuing education requirement. But, you must attend the entire three hour broadcast.
This training is being provided by the Ohio Supreme Court Judicial College. The topic of the training is “Introduction to the Developmental Disability System.”

4. Annual Report for 2017

5. GoalBall is returning
Join the Sylvania Schools BPA students and the Lucas County Board of Development Disabilities to support disability awareness by organizing your own 3 person team and come compete! 6. Sunshine taking summer camp reservations
Sunshine Communities is taking reservations for its summer camps. Many campers are typically-abled but camp counselors are able to adapt to special needs as well.
Campers learn animal care and riding skills at Sunshine’s Barn Camp in Maumee. A variety of one-day sessions to mix and match: 4 -6 year olds: June 22, June 29, Aug 5, Aug 12. 2-5pm. ($35 per session). 6 years and older: July 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26, 29, & Aug 2. Noon to 4pm. ($50/session). 6 years and older: July 13, 20, 27, Aug 3, 10, & 17. 2 to 6pm. ($50/session). Campers learn hand-building, extruding clay, and surface techniques at Sunshine’s Studio camp in Uptown Maumee. June 25-29 – 10 am. to 11 a.m. for K-3rd grade; 1 to 2 pm. for 4th – 6th grade. Mark your calendar for our annual Camp Cleanup Day on Saturday April 21st! Whether you are an individual, small or large group, person with a trade skill, or someone who just wants to help; we have a project for you! If you can give one hour or a whole afternoon, we need and appreciate your willingness to help! Hotdogs and beverages will be provided throughout the day. 10. Bittersweet spring fundraiser is May 24
Bittersweet will be hosting its 4th annual spring fundraiser, Celebrating Possibilities, presented by Dana Incorporated and Morgan Stanley. The event will celebrate the abilities and achievements of individuals with autism. The fundraiser will be held on Thursday, May 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The celebration will be held under the pavilion on Bittersweet’s beautiful 80-acre farm, and as always, it will include the best of local food, drinks, and music. This year, Bittersweet is proud to feature local, farm to table fare catered by Fowl and Fodder, desserts by the Bittersweet culinary team, and live music by local artist Nick Neenan. Art pieces, culinary delights, and farm-fresh Bittersweet produce will be available for sale. Rick Thielen is the chairman of the event and Dan Cummins from WTOL11 will be the guest master of ceremonies. The event is rain or shine. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online.
11. Revised Waiting List Rule posted, public comments accepted until May 3
Fix The List; a statewide coalition of people with disabilities, family members, and organizations representing guardians, county boards, and providers; has released an updated plan to fix Ohio’s DD waiver waiting list.
